USLBA EVENTS
The USLBA regularly hosts a variety of events for its members, including several off-the-record discussions.
Below are some of our events.
On June 3rd 2010, USLBA hosted an off-the-record briefing with the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Gene Cretz.
On May 27th, 2010, USLBA held an off-the-record briefing with Ambassador Janet Sanderson, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, U.S. Department of State, who presented the “perspective from Washington” on the U.S.-Libya relationship.
On April 27th, 2010, USLBA hosted an off-the-record briefing with the U.S. State Department Bureau of Political-Military Affairs.
On April 16th, 2010, USLBA hosted an off-the-record briefing with a senior official from the Department of Homeland Security.
On April 14th, 2010, USLBA hosted an off-the-record briefing with the AUSTR for Europe and the Middle East Chris Wilson on the occasion of the upcoming signing of the U.S.-Libya Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA). This meeting allowed USLBA member companies to discuss their experiences in doing business in Libya and suggest areas where the TIFA process could be helpful to both the U.S. and Libya.
On March 3rd, 2010, USLBA hosted an off-the-record briefing with the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Gene Cretz.On February 26, 2010, Martin Indyk, Vice President and Director of Foreign Policy at the Brookings Institute addressed USLBA members on "How We Brought Libya in from the Cold and Why We Should Keep Them From Backsliding."
On January 11, 2010, Richard Berkland of Valmont Industries addressed USLBA members on his company’s farming ventures in Libya. He spoke about exciting new opportunities for American Agro-Business in Libya over the next decade.
On December 11, 2009, USLBA hosted an off-the-record briefing with the U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Gene Cretz. He discussed the challenges facing the U.S.-Libya relationship, as well, as the business and diplomatic opportunities to strengthen ties between the two nations.
On December 1, 2009, USLBA held an off-the-record lunch briefing with Libyan Ambassador to Washington, Ali Aujali. He discussed the monumental diplomatic events for Libya that transpired in 2009 and pontificated about the role of the media in impeding the strengthening of U.S.-Libya ties. He noted that despite whatever set backs may occur, it is business and cultural engagement that allows the U.S.-Libya relationship to prosper.
On April 24, 2009, the USLBA held a private lunch briefing with the US Ambassador to Libya, Ambassador Gene Cretz.
On February 10, 2009, the USLBA hosted a luncheon honoring the Libyan Ambassador to the United States, H.E. Ali S. Aujali. (Photos)
On January 29, 2009, the USLBA met with the Regional Director for the Middle East & North Africa from the US Trade & Development Agency.
On January 13, 2009, USLBA organized a gala dinner for Ahmed Said Fituri, the Secretary of the Americas Department of the Secretariat for Foreign Liaison.

The USLBA led the second USLBA trade mission to Libya from June 23 - 27, 2008 with 14 members from 11 companies. (Photos)

On June 23rd, 2006, the USLBA held its First Policy Conference. The Keynote address was delivered by the late Congressman (D-CA) Tom Lantos and the Luncheon Address by H.E. Dr. Taher E. Jehaimi, Secretary of the General People’s Committee for Planning. The theme of the conference was, “U.S.-Libya RE-Engagement: The Path Forward” and in the eloquent words of Congressman Lantos, “The Libyan model is the most powerful demonstration that the U.S. will take ‘yes’ for an answer.”
